A BRIGHT NEW WAY TO SAVE MONEY
What is LED?
LED is an acronym for light – emitting diode.
An LED is a semiconductor device that converts electricity to light by using the movement of electrons.
LEDs have many practical applications and are being used widely in residential and commercial lighting.
Benefits of LED:
The operational life of current white LED lamps is 100,000 hours. This translates to 11 years of 24 hours a day of operation or 22 years of 12 hours a day of operation. The long operational life of an led lamp is a stark contrast to the average life of an incandescent bulb, which is approximately 1500 hours. If the lighting device needs to be embedded into a very inaccessible place, using LED's would virtually eliminate the need for routine bulb replacement.
Top benefits of LED lighting:
- Cost Efficient
- High energy savings
- Lower cooling cost as LED lights generate less heat
- Lower maintenance cost due to:
- Low failure rate
- Low replacement costs
- Large number of lighting options and customization
- Improved aesthetics
- Adjustable light to fit every mood - dimmable
Environmental Impact | LED | Incandescent Light Bulb | Compact Fluorescent (CFL) |
---|---|---|---|
Contains the TOXIC Mercury (Hg) | No | No | Mercury is very toxic to health and environment |
Carbon Dioxide Emissions (30 bulbs per year) Lower energy consumption decreases: CO2 emissions, sulfur oxide, and nuclear waste. | 451 pounds / year | 4,500 pounds / year | 1051 pounds / year |
Green / Recycle | Very High | Only glass | Moderate due to Hg |
Environmental benefits in summary
- lower CO2 emission
- lower sulfur oxide
- lower nuclear waste
